Tutor Zone to the Rescue!

The COVID-19 Achievement Gap

Due to the pandemic, the struggle to meet grade expectations for many students created a disparity in learning outcomes called the COVID-19 gap. Lack of Internet access, lack of motivation, household distractions, and other problems have caused this COVID-19 gap. Several educators and parents feel concerned about how the COVID-19 gap would affect students in the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Fortunately, Tutor Zone is a resource that can reduce that learning gap!

Why Tutor Zone?

Tutor Zone helps students with remedial learning or catching up academically, as well as exceeding class expectations. At Tutor Zone, we promote academic fitness and resilience. Instructors have grown creative with lesson planning for in-person and virtual settings. Last year, Tutor Zone established a partnership with ABC Unified School District from Cerritos, CA. We virtually teach ABCUSD students who are English learners, live in foster homes, and have needed academic improvement during the 2020-2021 school year. Our experience collaborating with a local school district is an example of how we have been supporting the community. Tutor Zone is committed to student achievement because we believe that “a little time makes a big difference!”

Summertime Services

Tutor Zone will be available during the summer for in-person tutoring at our Whittier, La Habra, and Placentia locations. We will be open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 am to 5 pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 pm to 7 pm. Tutor Zone instructors have been taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 so students can safely learn in person. We also offer online tutoring. Tutor Zone will provide group classes on K-12 subjects such as reading, writing, elementary math, algebra 1, Spanish, and more. We will prepare students for tests such as the SAT and mentor them in applying for colleges.

Growing Alliance with ABC Unified School District

Tutor Zone will continue the partnership with ABCUSD by providing math and writing enrichment for incoming seventh and ninth graders. We plan to instruct students on pre-algebra and algebra 1 concepts as well as assist them in writing essays. The hope with these enrichment classes is to prepare students for the academic rigor in middle school and high school. This summer virtual academy will run Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 12 pm from June 21 to July 15. Tutor Zone will have another summer program in which our instructors can serve as teacher aides to ABCUSD teachers. We will teach portions of the lessons, grade homework, create answer keys, and perform other responsibilities. Tutor Zone is excited to cooperate with ABCUSD again to help students recover from learning loss and learn new skills.

Clases de inglés para Costa Rica

Costa Rica, like countless other countries, has been immensely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Tutor Zone is offering free English classes to Costa Ricans starting May 24. The English classes will take place over five weeks for two hours per week. Costa Rica is known for its “pura vida” culture, which means “pure life.” This phrase induces a lighthearted way of life, and Tutor Zone wants to motivate Costa Ricans to stay optimistic. By offering English classes for free, we hope to alleviate stress from the pandemic.

Maintaining Academic Fitness

Tutor Zone understands the importance of staying sharp academically, even during summer vacation. The pandemic has made this past school year difficult, so we strive to help students regain their confidence to excel. At Tutor Zone, we want to inspire students to love learning as much as we do. This summer, take a break from the heat by honing your academic skills in an air-conditioned, engaging learning environment. You are also welcome to join us for online tutoring sessions. See you soon!
